The excruciating, seven-month drought is finally over—it’s football season in America. Today’s opener promises to be a lively installment in the National Football League’s most storied rivalry: last year’s Super Bowl victor, the New York Giants, faces “America’s Team,” the Dallas Cowboys.

The rivalry started after all-star Giant Tom Landry, next in line to be New York’s head coach, left to become the first head coach for the Cowboys, a job he held for 29 years. While the first contest, in 1960, ended in a draw, the Cowboys went on to beat the Giants 17 out of the next 20 games, while making five Super Bowls and winning two. Since 2000, however, New York has been on top, winning two Super Bowls in the past four years alone, and beating its rival 16 times in the past 25 games.
